Day of Hope #108

Monday December 13 – Day of Hope #108

Goal: Rest up to be the best Holiday Host

Quote: “Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes… including you.” – Anne Lamott

Today’s Day of Hope wasn’t flashy or packed with big plans, and that’s exactly what made it perfect.

I slept in, something I didn’t do nearly enough, and took a long, unrushed shower. The kind that makes you feel human again. I worked half a day in the afternoon, and then I had the house completely to myself. Quiet, stillness, and space to breathe.

I pulled my angel card for 2022, and the word was Vision. That felt right. A gentle reminder to keep looking forward, to stay open to what’s unfolding, and to trust what I’m being guided toward next.

To calm my mind, I worked on a puzzle for a bit. Something simple, steady, and grounding. Later, I picked up Café Yumm for dinner and settled in for a night of Christmas Hallmark movies. Cozy, predictable, feel-good stories playing in the background while I rested and recharged. I even got to sleep the next morning before heading back to work.

This day wasn’t about doing more. It was about slowing down so I could do more for others in the days ahead. I needed this pause to be fully present for the holiday season, especially with hosting, baking, and celebrating just around the corner.

Bonus – Christmas Party & Cookie Day

This year, I was especially excited because I hosted our annual Christmas party with my game-night girlfriends and their spouses, partners, and significant others. Hosting brings me so much joy. It’s one of my favorite ways to give love.

We transformed the garage into a Christmas wonderland, covering the walls with posters and decorations. A long table ran down the center, filled with festive touches, gifts, and all kinds of fun surprises. Everyone went all out with fancy outfits, sparkly holiday gear, and even dramatic eyelashes, something you might not notice in the photos, but trust me, they were fabulous.

We laughed, caught up, shared stories about the year behind us, and talked about hopes for the year ahead. It was one of those nights that filled your cup without you even realizing it.

A few days later, we kept the holiday spirit going with family cookie day. Since the garage was already decorated, it was the perfect place to set up tables for sugar cookies, frosting, and lots of laughter. A tradition we love and look forward to every year.

My Lesson of Hope: Rest is not a reward, it’s preparation. When I take time to slow down and care for myself, I show up better for the people I love. Sometimes the most meaningful Days of Hope are the quiet ones, because they make room for joy, connection, and celebration to follow.
