Wednesday July 13 – Day of Hope #115

Goal: Find peace in an ordinary day

Not every Day of Hope is filled with adventure. Some are simply about finding a few quiet hours in the middle of a busy life. This month was one of those days.

I actually got to sleep in until around 10:00 a.m., which was a wonderful way to begin the morning. Unfortunately, my Day of Hope couldn't be completely work-free. It was Board meeting week, and our Board documents were due. Sometimes responsibilities don't wait, and this was one of those times.

So, I headed into the office and spent the day getting everything completed. That's life. Sometimes your plans have to bend a little. The good news was that once work was over, I had the house all to myself.

Ironically, it was also National French Fry Day, and my company was celebrating by hosting an event at the Boise Hawks baseball stadium. They provided tickets to the game along with food for employees and their families. My kids went and had a wonderful time.

Me? I chose something different. Instead of going to the game, I slipped into my pajamas early, settled onto the couch, turned on a Hallmark movie, and gave myself permission to simply... rest.

No guilt. No feeling like I was missing out. Just peace. Sometimes we think a Day of Hope has to be extraordinary to count. But this day reminded me that wasn't true at all. The whole purpose of a Day of Hope is creating intentional time for yourself, whatever that happens to look like.

Sometimes it's traveling to another country. Sometimes it's climbing a mountain. And sometimes... It's an early bedtime, a cozy movie, and a quiet house. Honestly, that's exactly what my heart needed.

My Lesson of Hope: Sometimes the greatest gift we can give ourselves is permission to slow down, say no to one more event, and simply enjoy the peace of our own company.
