Day of Hope #95

Friday November 13 – Day of Hope #95

Goal: Enjoy all the amazing things spas have to offer

Quote: “If you get tired, learn to rest not quit.” - Unknown

Everything was starting to close again. COVID restrictions were tightening, and we knew another lockdown was around the corner. Travel was limited, most places were shut down, and everyday life felt heavy. But a few places were still open, and we decided to make the most of it while we could.

To celebrate my birthday, we headed up to McCall to stay at the Shore Lodge and spend some time at The Cove Spa. We arrived on Wednesday and enjoyed a lovely dinner at the hotel that night. The next day, I worked remotely from the spa (which, I must say, was not a bad office for the day), and then I treated myself to a relaxing massage followed by two peaceful hours in the immersion pools.

Everything was carefully timed for safety. Only a few people were allowed in the spa areas at a time, and masks were required throughout the resort. It felt safe, and more than that, it felt like a much-needed escape.

Poolside, I ordered my favorite Bloody Mary’s, and a meat and cheese tray delivered right to my lounge chair. That evening, we went out for another wonderful dinner.

We woke up to a fresh blanket of snow, had a cozy breakfast, and I treated myself to another spa service. A couple of my friends made the drive up to join me for the night, and we shared an incredible, laughter-filled dinner at the hotel. The snow continued falling all weekend, which made everything feel magical, especially since we didn’t have to drive in it.

This trip felt like a beautiful pause before the world shut down again. We knew stricter lockdowns were coming, and that hotel stays and travel would soon be off-limits. This was our chance to breathe deeply, soak in some peace, and savor one last getaway.

Side Note:
As expected, the shutdowns continued, and we couldn’t travel for Thanksgiving as we usually do. We stayed home instead of going to Utah. My dad was understandably concerned about having too many people in the house, and we were all doing our best to stay safe and protect one another. We made a full Thanksgiving dinner at home, turkey and all the fixings, and spent the day watching Christmas movies. It was quiet, different, but filled with love.

My lesson of hope: Writing my book is my main goal this year, but I’m learning that rest is part of the process. Slowing down doesn’t mean giving up, it means recharging so I can finish strong. Self-care and passion can live side by side, and both are essential to living fully.
